In a nutshell: This Victorian townhouse perched on the sandy shores of Margate must be your next seaside UK staycation - enter a dream world where pastels and oyster shells take center stage, and the hotel actually feels like home.
The story: The GuestHouse boutique hotel group properties each have a true sense of place. No. 42 Margate is no different, and pays homage to its Victorian holiday heritage, with the famous childhood ditty, "oh I do like to be beside the seaside, oh I do like to be beside the sea..." springing to mind. The interior design unabashedly leans into pastel colours, scalloped edges, oyster shells and plush fabrics - fusing both past and present.
The details: Where to begin? Enjoy the fully stocked pantry with snacks and drinks free to access, or dance to some classics using the Crossley record player found in each room. Once you're full from the flapjacks and exhausted from boogieing to Earth Wind and Fire, indulge in the Bramley bath products and flick through the GuestHouse magazine which highlights the local area. To end your evening, head up to the cool rooftop bar for some bubbles.
Location: 5/5
No. 42 Margate is perfectly located in the heart of the Old Town, and only a 10 minute walk from Margate train station. With the sea on your doorstep, grab those striped beach towels from your room and feel the sand on your toes (taking a cold dip if you dare). Although the hotel restaurant, Pearly Cow, is a must-try, there are also fantastic eateries only a walk away (I recommend Sargasso on the pier or Angela's a few blocks down).
